WOW Kanye West Hosts Easter Service at Coachella

Famed rapped Kanye West performed on April 21st at the Weekend 2 of the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. And as is common with Kanye West, he brought his fare share of controversy and exorbitance to the concert for all the public to see.

In celebration of Easter Sunday, Kanye West hosted a “Sunday Service” at a site near the Coachella Valley where most of the concert was being held.
The event had gospel-infused performances by West, who had short-cropped hair that was dyed multiple shades of purple. There was also a 50-person choir all dressed in purple as well, in addition to the many dancers, singers, and band members that accompanied him on stage.

The service featured performances by Chance the Rapper and Teynana Taylor as well. The public was able to access this event through livestreaming, which looked like a peephole filtered camera, giving the performance a “fish-eye” perspective. Also in attendance were 2Chainz, Justin and Hailey Bieber, Travis Scott, and Kylie Jenner.

Kanye and Family Host-Sunday Service Coachella

One of the most popular aspects of this service was the merchandise sold at the campsite. The products were all designed by Kanye West, and included sweatshirts, sweatpants, and socks.
The sweatshirts were priced from $165 to $225, and some read “holy spirit” and “trust God” on the front, and “Sunday Service at the Mountain” on the back. Socks were sold for $50, and contained less words, with “Jesus walks” or “church socks” written across them.
The sweatpants features “Sunday” and “service” written down the side of either leg. And to add to the intrigue, these products were all sold by young women wearing black clothing over their mouths.

West has popularized the church-going trend by holding similar services at his home and other locations in Calabasas, California. These have been going on for months now, and are seen through the Instagram Stories of his wife, Kim Kardashian West. Kanye’s Sunday Services are more of a concert series. There is no preaching persay, but the entire event revolves around God and music.

In March of 2019, West brought his Sunday Service to Adidas’s headquarters in Portland. West’s mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, is part owner of a controversial church called California Community Church since 2010. This church charges $1,000 monthly membership fee and has been accused multiple times of tax evasion.

West’s church services have been attended by all types of celebrities, including Justin and Hailey Bieber, Diplo, Rick Rubin, Courtney Love, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Kid Cudi, DMX, and Busy Philipps.

This is the most of Kanye West the world has seen this year. Last year, West made headlines by showing great support to Donald Trump. He also hosted the Pornhub Awards last fall and got into verbal public fights with Drake, Ariana Grande, and Travis Scott. He has since been out of the limelight, but has been releasing sneakers occasionally. Anyhow, it seems by the long lines at the Merch booth, his Coachella Easter Sunday Service was a profitable success.
