WHO coordinates visit to China to investigate origin of SARS-CoV-2

The World Health Organization (WHO) is carrying out coordinations with China so that its experts pay a third visit here and investigate the origin of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and its resulting Covid-19 pneumonia, the government confirmed today.

The Foreign Ministry indicated that Beijing took the initiative of inviting the scientists to work together with national scientist on the investigation, clarify how animals can host the pathogen and transmit it to humans.

It commented the close communication between the parties, the conducting of videoconferences and the achievement of consensus to expand cooperation, prevent health crises in the future and protect health across the world.

It highlighted that only science can clear up doubts on this subject, warned about the inclusion of other nations in the studies and advocated the willingness to support WHO’s work.

Yesterday, an official from this world organization announced the upcoming trip of its experts to China.

In February and July, 2020, WHO experts also were in this Asian nation and visited health centers of Beijing, Guangdong, Sichuan and Wuhan to supervise actions to tackle this disease.

According to reports, the objective of this international mission was to offer suggestions for new stages in the prevention and control of outbreaks here and other nations in the world.

It also focused work on identifying the exact animal that developed the virus, as they consider that this information would help to avoid more pandemics like the current one in the future and also to understand its massive spread in Wuhan, where the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was first reported in late 2019.
