Caracas, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) With the arrival on Friday of the first batch of the Sputnik V Russian Covid-19 vaccine, Venezuela becomes the first country in the Western Hemisphere to receive Sputnik V.
During the reception of the cargo at the Simon Bolivar International Airport, the Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez highlighted that this is a historic day for Venezuela, which in the upcoming days will start the application of the new med to 2000 volunteers, as part of phase three clinical trials.
She also announced that Venezuela will join the mass production of the vaccine as soon as it passes all trials and can be commercialized, with which the entire population will have access to it.
Meanwhile, the charge d’affaires of the Russian embassy in Venezuela, Sergei Seredin, noted that this event is the result of negotiations between the Russian Direct Investment Fund and the Ministry of Health of Venezuela, and a expression of the strategic cooperation between both nations.
The representatives of the two delegations highlighted that they will continue to strengthen bilateral relations.
Meanwhile, Venezuela’s Health Minister Carlos Alvarado reported that this month the clinical trial will begin in the capital, which will be developed under the advice and control of a prestigious team of scientists.
In the end, Rodriguez thanked Russia’s President Vladimir Putin for his support in the fight against the pandemic and the delivery of the vaccine, which she described as an extraordinary gesture of solidarity and cooperation.
