Old town road by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus has outdone itself this time. The song has stayed on the U.S chart for the longest time in history. The record is a whopping 17 weeks of staying on the billboard hot 100 breaking the record of 16 weeks held by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men for “One Sweet Day” and “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee with Justin Bieber.
The song’s longevity on the number one spot is majorly due to Lil Nas X strives to promote his song by always doing new remixes of the track. Recently he just did a remix with a member of the BTS music group and titled it “Seoul Town Road”
Lil Nas X took to Instagram to post a detailed reflective post with photos showing the success of the song over time with the caption, “Did I know it would become the longest-running number 1 song of all time? NO! But I am so thankful that this blessing has been placed upon me. This song has changed my life and the way I see the world around me in less than a year. Thank you to every single person who has been a part of this journey. As I said before, it’s just the beginning!”
He also reminisced on how he had almost lost faith the previous after scouring YouTube for beats he could use for his songs. He described what he was looking for as something that needed to be funny, catchy, country, hip-hop and short. And yes he did get it. because since its releases, Old Town Road has had over 143 million streams in just 7 days which can only be rivaled by Drakes “In my feelings” which barely did 116.2 million streams.
In a recent interview on what he would do if he could break his record, he said he would celebrate by sending roses to Mariah Carey if it actually happens.
Good luck to him
