Celebrations Begun as Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” Reaches No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 Chart

Last week that Atlanta rapper, Lil Nas X had his song removed from the Billboard Country Song charts because it didn’t categorize as country music. The hip-hop industry protested over the decision and only a few weeks later we saw Billy Ray Cyrus in the studio with him to do a country-style remix.

According to the recent reports from Billboard, the viral single has reached the Hot 100 charts because of the large number of listeners streaming the single. The song has replaced Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” which had been claiming the top spot for eight weeks straight.

“Old Town Road” is also at the top of the charts for Streaming Songs after it received 46.6 million listens up til April 4th. The song has also hopped up on Digital Song Sales from the 11th position to number 3 after it racked up 22,000 downloads in the same week.

Lil Nas X is the first artist to reach the number one spot with their first single since Cardi B did it with “Bodak Yellow”. Her single was at the top for three weeks and during the fall of 2017. Lil Nas is also the first male aristst since Designer to lead the charts with their first single. He did it in 2016 with “Panda” that was at the top for two consecutive weeks.

“Old Town Road” has reached number one in only six weeks since it was released which is a record for the fastest to climb to the top since Zayn Malik’s debut single in 2016 “Pillow Talk”.

Lil Nas X has been having the week of his life because it was his 20th birthday on April 9th. He is going to be celebrating for a long time as indicated by his Instagram post caption: “JUST THE BEGINNING”.
