Eddie Murphy has returned to the Saturday night live show for the first time after 1984 when it aired for the last day. This show was highly anticipated since when the rumor first made rounds in 2015 after the 40th anniversary.
Eddie Murphy did host the show with some Saturday Night Alums such as Tracy Morgan, Kenan Thompson, Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock. Eddie Murphy took the stage stating that “This is the last episode of 2019. But if you are black this is the first episode since I left back in 1984”.
Eddie started off with firing one at Bill Cosby who is currently in prison by saying “If you have told me 30 years ago that I would be this boring stay-at-home house dad and Bill Cosby would be in jail, even I would have taken that bet”. This was a comment that Bill Cosby’s publicist Andrew Wyatt was quick to respond to on Bill Cosby’s Instagram page attaching a hashtag of #NotFunnySNL.
He also performed alongside the quartet of Kenan, Chris, Tracy and Dave of which Chris and Tracy were both Saturday night live stars themselves. The stars praised him for his genius during his time as the shows host with Tracy quipping, “If it wasn’t for you I wouldn’t be here”. Chris Rock adding that the producer of the show once compared him to Eddie murphy when he started out as the show host but went on further to say, “No you are not”. Dave Chappelle also chipped in that he had followed Eddie’s blueprint all through his career.
The show was really exhilarating as Murphy reprised all Saturday night live characters in a parody-like manner. The Gig counted as Eddie Murphy’s third time hosting the Saturday night live show.
A guest appearance by Alec Baldwin as “President Trump” was also a highlight of the show as he received two impeachment articles as Christmas gifts from Kate Mckinnon as Nancy Pelosi. It was really grand and fans of the show were delighted to have Eddie Murphy back on the show. It’s a good thing he is back and we are looking forward to more performances.
