OPRAH WINFREY DONATES HALF A MILLION TO MARCH FOR OUR LIVES RALLY
In the wake of the shooting in Florida last week at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the March for Our Lives will take place next month, March 24th. Students are using their political action to take a stand due to this horrific event that left 17 dead, 14 were students.
George and Amal Clooney pledged $500,000 to the anti-gun rally. A few hours later, Oprah Winfrey declared her donation as well. She agreed with the Clooney’s and will match their half a million dollars donation.
George and Amal, I couldn’t agree with you more. I am joining forces with you and will match your $500,000 donation to ‘March For Our Lives.’ These inspiring young people remind me of the Freedom Riders of the 60s who also said we’ve had ENOUGH and our voices will be heard.
She tweeted, “These inspiring young people remind me of the Freedom Riders of the 60s who also said we’ve had ENOUGH and our voices will be heard.”
Along with Winfrey and the Clooney’s, Kate Capshaw, Steven Spielberg, and Jeffrey and Marilyn Katzenberg have also donated to the rally.
The march next month isn’t the only thing that students have done in response to the Parkland, Florida shooting. Students in Washington, D.C., created Teens for Gun Reform and staged a three-minute lie-in in front of the White House on President’s Day. The teens wanted to send a message to the government and their lack of gun control.
