Naomi Campbell To Receive Prestigious Fashion Award
NAOMI CAMPBELL is to receive the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) fashion icon award.
CFDA announced 47-year-old Campbell as the recipient of the award last week.
Reacting to the news, the supermodel said: “It is truly an honour to be recognised by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon Award.”
“Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers who have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.”
Campbell, who is also a contributing editor at British Vogue, will be presented with the award on June 4 at Brooklyn Museum. The ceremony will be presented by actress and Insecure creator, Issa Rae.
Past CFDA icon award recipients include Rihanna, Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, Iman, David Bowie and Kate Moss.
This year CFDA has recognised the contributions of streetwear designers for the first time. Virgil Abloh, the designer behind Off-White and James Jebbia, the founder of cult brand Supreme, have both been nominated for awards.
Edward Enninful, the editor-in-chief of British Vogue, will be awarded the Media Award in honour of Eugenia Sheppard. The award recognises his significant contribution to the fashion industry over the years and his more recent work at British Vogue.
